The Rüdesheimer Magdalenenkreuz—often affectionately referred to as 'Maggie' by Riesling enthusiasts—takes its name from a historic red sandstone cross dedicated to Mary Magdalene that stands among the vines. Unlike the steep, slate-dominated cliffs of the neighboring Berg Schlossberg, the Magdalenenkreuz vineyard features deep, fertile soils of loess, loam, and sandy gravel. This unique terroir excels at retaining moisture and warmth, creating the perfect microclimate for the development of Botrytis cinerea (noble rot). In exceptional vintages, Weingut Leitz painstakingly hand-harvests these shriveled, botrytized berries one by one to craft their rare Trockenbeerenauslese (TBA). The resulting wine is a luscious, amber-hued nectar of astonishing complexity, balancing intense sweetness with the Rheingau's signature electric acidity.

With family viticultural heritage in Rüdesheim tracing back to 1744, Weingut Leitz began a dynamic modern era when Johannes Leitz took helm of the family estate in 1985. Through uncompromising dedication to quality, he transformed a modest 2.9-hectare holding into an internationally celebrated powerhouse focused on prime steep-slope parcels across the Rüdesheimer Berg, including iconic grand cru sites such as Berg Schlossberg, Berg Roseneck, and Berg Rottland.
