The Rüdesheimer Magdalenenkreuz Riesling Spätlese is a stunning expression of the Rheingau's rich winemaking heritage, sourced from a vineyard named after a historic red sandstone cross dedicated to Mary Magdalene that has stood among the vines since the 19th century. Locally nicknamed 'Maggie,' this vineyard is characterized by its deep, fertile soils of sandy loam, loess, and quartzite. These soils warm up easily, encouraging the grapes to reach optimal ripeness early in the season, which is ideal for crafting a classic Spätlese (late harvest) wine. Weingut Leitz masterfully captures the essence of this site, balancing the natural, luscious residual sweetness of the late-harvested grapes with the electric, vibrant acidity that is the hallmark of great Rheingau Riesling.
