Ried Grassnitzberg is one of the most historic and revered single vineyards in Southern Styria, with written records of its viticultural importance dating back to 1430. Situated on a steep, south-to-southeast-facing amphitheater, this vineyard is defined by its unique soil composition of fossilized coralline limestone (known locally as Muschelkalk) and sandy loam. Weingut Tement treats this site with utmost reverence, employing biodynamic farming practices and manual harvesting. In the cellar, the wine undergoes spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts and is aged on its fine lees in large, neutral oak casks for up to 18 months. This traditional, low-intervention approach coaxes out a highly distinctive expression of Sauvignon Blanc, characterized by intense salty minerality, spicy herbal undertones, and a precise, vibrant structure that reflects the ancient marine terroir.
