Weingut Tement's Ried Zieregg Morillon is a monumental expression of Styrian Chardonnay, locally known as Morillon. The name Morillon itself is steeped in local lore, dating back to the 19th century when growers supposedly misheard the grape's French origin or named it after a specific seedling. This wine originates from the legendary, steep, south-facing slopes of the Zieregg vineyard, where the vines dig deep into ancient coralline limestone (Muschelkalk) and clay-silt marl (locally called Opok). Under the meticulous biodynamic stewardship of the Tement family, the grapes are hand-harvested and spontaneously fermented in neutral oak casks, followed by extensive aging on the lees. The resulting wine is celebrated for its striking mineral tension, salty complexity, and deep, structural power, reflecting the unique borderland terroir of Southern Styria.
