The Wolfer Goldgrube, or 'gold mine,' is a legendary steep amphitheater of weathered grey slate in the Mosel, where Weingut Vollenweider coaxes some of the region's most breathtaking sweet wines from ancient, ungrafted Riesling vines. The Auslese 'Nr3' represents a meticulous selection of botrytis-affected grapes, harvested by hand on dizzying slopes. Founded in 1999 by Swiss native Daniel Vollenweider, Weingut Vollenweider is based in Traben-Trarbach in Germany's celebrated Mosel valley. Without family land or inherited infrastructure, Vollenweider dedicated himself to reviving neglected, century-old ungrafted vines clinging to the dramatic, slate-rich amphitheater of the Wolfer Goldgrube. Through meticulous, hands-on cultivation of these extreme steep slopes and traditional, low-intervention cellar work, the estate became a beacon of pure Mosel expression. Today, Weingut Vollenweider is internationally revered for its crystalline, mineral-laden Rieslings, particularly its legendary, highly collectible Auslese and Goldkapsel dessert wines.
