✨ Technical Specifications
The Wolfer Goldgrube, or 'golden pit,' is a legendary amphitheater-like vineyard in the Mosel, characterized by its extremely steep slopes and weathered Devonian slate soils. Weingut Vollenweider's Riesling Auslese from this site is a masterclass in tension, harvested from ancient, ungrafted vines that yield tiny, concentrated berries. The name Goldgrube historically references either the golden color of the autumn canopy or the immense value of the wines produced here. Crafted through meticulous manual selection of botrytized grapes, this Auslese undergoes a slow, cool fermentation to preserve its vibrant aromatics. The resulting wine is a sublime harmony of luscious, honeyed sweetness and a piercing, mineral-driven acidity that dances on the palate, showcasing the pure essence of Mosel terroir.
🍾 About the Producer
Founded in 1999 by Swiss native Daniel Vollenweider, Weingut Vollenweider is based in Traben-Trarbach in Germany's celebrated Mosel valley. Without family land or inherited infrastructure, Vollenweider dedicated himself to reviving neglected, century-old ungrafted vines clinging to the dramatic, slate-rich amphitheater of the Wolfer Goldgrube. Through meticulous, hands-on cultivation of these extreme steep slopes and traditional, low-intervention cellar work, the estate became a beacon of pure Mosel expression. Today, Weingut Vollenweider is internationally revered for its crystalline, mineral-laden Rieslings, particularly its legendary, highly collectible Auslese and Goldkapsel dessert wines.
