Hailing from the legendary, dizzyingly steep slopes of the Wolfer Goldgrube, the 'Padauer' bottling represents a sublime expression of Weingut Vollenweider's dedication to Mosel's viticultural heritage. The late Daniel Vollenweider, a visionary Swiss winemaker, fell under the spell of these forgotten, ancient terraces and set out to rescue them. The 'Padauer' parcel is characterized by its extremely old, ungrafted Riesling vines anchored deep into weathered blue and grey Devonian slate. This terroir, combined with a cool microclimate, yields fruit of extraordinary concentration and mineral tension. Crafted with minimal intervention, spontaneous fermentation, and meticulous manual care, this Spätlese beautifully balances natural residual sweetness with a piercing, electric acidity, capturing the essence of the Mosel's golden era.
🍾 About the Producer
Founded in 1999 by Swiss native Daniel Vollenweider, Weingut Vollenweider is based in Traben-Trarbach in Germany's celebrated Mosel valley. Without family land or inherited infrastructure, Vollenweider dedicated himself to reviving neglected, century-old ungrafted vines clinging to the dramatic, slate-rich amphitheater of the Wolfer Goldgrube. Through meticulous, hands-on cultivation of these extreme steep slopes and traditional, low-intervention cellar work, the estate became a beacon of pure Mosel expression. Today, Weingut Vollenweider is internationally revered for its crystalline, mineral-laden Rieslings, particularly its legendary, highly collectible Auslese and Goldkapsel dessert wines.
