Hailing from the legendary, dizzyingly steep slopes of the Wolfer Goldgrube, the Portz parcel represents one of the crown jewels of Weingut Vollenweider. The name Goldgrube translates to gold mine, a historical nod to the exceptional quality and sun-drenched exposure of this Mosel site. This Spätlese is crafted from ancient, ungrafted Riesling vines anchored in weathered Devonian slate. Vollenweider's minimal-intervention philosophy in the cellar—utilizing gentle pressing and spontaneous fermentation—allows the unique microclimate of the Portz parcel to shine. The resulting wine is a masterclass in tension, where luscious, honeyed stone fruit sweetness is perfectly counterbalanced by a vibrant, electric vein of slate-driven acidity and a salty, mineral finish.

Established in 2000 by the late Swiss winemaker Daniel Vollenweider, Weingut Vollenweider is located in Traben-Trarbach in the Mosel region of Germany. The estate is renowned for reclaiming and preserving historic, extremely steep vineyards, most notably the Wolfer Goldgrube, which features ancient, ungrafted Riesling vines.
