Hailing from a highly coveted, limestone-rich parcel at the very crest of the legendary Morstein vineyard in Westhofen, 'La Borne' is one of Germany's most exclusive dry Rieslings. Its name, French for 'the boundary stone,' pays homage to an ancient historic marker bordering the parcel, a relic from the Napoleonic era when the Rhineland was under French administration. Sourced from exceptionally old vines (Alte Reben) that burrow deep into the active lime soils, this rare cuvée is produced in extremely limited quantities and sold exclusively through the annual VDP auction in Bad Kreuznach. Fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured in traditional large neutral oak casks, it represents the pinnacle of Rheinhessen's mineral intensity, characterized by a profound, smoky limestone signature, laser-like acidity, and a majestic, structured power.

With viticultural heritage in Westhofen dating back to 1663, Weingut Wittmann is one of Germany's most influential pioneers of organic and biodynamic viticulture in the Wonnegau sub-region of Rheinhessen. Under the visionary leadership of Philipp Wittmann, alongside his family, the estate transitioned to organic farming in 1990 and achieved full biodynamic certification in 2004.
