Silvaner has a rich history in Rheinhessen, where it was once the undisputed king of the vineyards long before Riesling's modern dominance. First brought to German soil in the mid-17th century, this ancient variety finds a soulful, contemporary expression in the hands of the Wittmann family. Sourced from estate vineyards in Westhofen characterized by limestone-rich soils, this dry Silvaner is crafted with the same biodynamic rigor as Wittmann's legendary Grosses Gew%chs bottlings. Fermented with native yeasts and matured in a combination of stainless steel and traditional large neutral oak casks, it captures the rustic elegance of the region. With viticultural heritage in Westhofen dating back to 1663, Weingut Wittmann is one of Germany's most influential pioneers of organic and biodynamic viticulture in the Wonnegau sub-region of Rheinhessen. Under the visionary leadership of Philipp Wittmann, alongside his family, the estate transitioned to organic farming in 1990 and achieved full biodynamic certification in 2004.
