Hailing from the rolling hills of Rheinhessen, Wittmann's 'Vom Löss' Riesling is a masterful liquid portrait of its namesake soil. 'Löss' (loess) refers to the fertile, wind-blown silty dust deposited during the last Ice Age. While Wittmann is globally renowned for the intense, limestone-driven power of its Grosses Gewächs sites, this cuvée celebrates the softer, more generous side of Westhofen. The deep loess soils retain moisture beautifully, imparting a distinctive roundness, juicy yellow-fruit character, and a creamy texture to the Riesling. Crafted under biodynamic principles, the grapes are gently pressed and fermented with indigenous yeasts in traditional, large neutral oak casks in the estate's historic 1829 cellar. This traditional upbringing coaxes out a delicate, smoky minerality and a harmonious, vibrant acidity that makes the wine incredibly expressive even in its youth.

With viticultural heritage in Westhofen dating back to 1663, Weingut Wittmann is one of Germany's most influential pioneers of organic and biodynamic viticulture in the Wonnegau sub-region of Rheinhessen. Under the visionary leadership of Philipp Wittmann, alongside his family, the estate transitioned to organic farming in 1990 and achieved full biodynamic certification in 2004. Wittmann's philosophy centers on intense vineyard care, spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, and aging in traditional neutral oak casks to express the profound limestone-rich terroir of legendary VDP.Grosse Lage sites such as Morstein, Kirchspiel, Aulerde, and Brunnenhäuschen.
