The Kirchspiel vineyard is a majestic, east-to-southeast-facing amphitheater that shields the vines from the cold westerly winds, creating a warm microclimate in the otherwise cool Rheinhessen. Here, the soils are dominated by clay marl interspersed with limestone fragments, a terroir that imparts a distinctive, high-toned minerality and elegant structure to the wine. Wittmann's Westhofener Kirchspiel Riesling Grosses Gewächs is crafted with meticulous care: hand-harvested grapes undergo spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in traditional, large neutral oak casks. This gentle, non-interventionist approach allows the vineyard's unique voice to shine, yielding a dry Riesling of remarkable precision, characterized by vibrant citrus, white peach, wild herbs, and a crystalline, salty mineral finish. Historically, the Kirchspiel has been recognized for centuries as one of Westhofen's premier sites, and under Wittmann's biodynamic stewardship, it has become a global benchmark for dry German Riesling.

Weingut Wittmann har rødder i Westhofen helt tilbage til 1663 og regnes i dag blandt Tysklands mest indflydelsesrige pionerer inden for økologisk og biodynamisk vinbrug i Wonnegau-området i Rheinhessen. Under visionær ledelse af Philipp Wittmann og hans familie omlagde vinhuset til økologisk dyrkning i 1990 og opnåede fuld biodynamisk certificering i 2004. Wittmanns filosofi bygger på kompromisløs pleje af vinmarkerne, spontangæring med det naturlige gær og lagring på traditionelle, neutrale egetræsfade for at give det reneste udtryk for det kalkrige terroir på legendariske VDP.Grosse Lage-marker som Morstein, Kirchspiel, Aulerde og Brunnenhäuschen. Vingården er verdensberømt for sine skelsættende tørre Grosses Gewächs-Rieslinger, der brillerer med krystalklar præcision, spændstighed og kalket mineralitet, men mestrer i lige så høj grad exceptionelle ædelsøde botrytis-vine samt elegante Pinot Noir-vine.
