The Morstein vineyard is a legendary grand cru site in Westhofen, with records of its viticultural significance dating back to 1282. Situated on a south-facing slope, its terroir is defined by a heavy clay marl topsoil strewn with limestone fragments, resting upon a deep, water-retaining limestone bedrock. This unique geology forces the vines to dig deep, imparting a profound, chalky minerality and immense structural power to the Riesling. Wittmann crafts this Grosses Gew$chs with meticulous biodynamic care, fermenting the hand-harvested fruit with indigenous yeasts in traditional, large neutral oak casks. The resulting wine is a masterclass in tension and depth, characterized by intense yellow fruit, wet stone reduction, and a vibrant, saline finish that speaks of its ancient seabed origins.

Weingut Wittmann har rødder i Westhofen helt tilbage til 1663 og regnes i dag blandt Tysklands mest indflydelsesrige pionerer inden for økologisk og biodynamisk vinbrug i Wonnegau-området i Rheinhessen. Under visionær ledelse af Philipp Wittmann og hans familie omlagde vinhuset til økologisk dyrkning i 1990 og opnåede fuld biodynamisk certificering i 2004. Wittmanns filosofi bygger på kompromisløs pleje af vinmarkerne, spontangæring med det naturlige gær og lagring på traditionelle, neutrale egetræsfade for at give det reneste udtryk for det kalkrige terroir på legendariske VDP.Grosse Lage-marker som Morstein, Kirchspiel, Aulerde og Brunnenhäuschen. Vingården er verdensberømt for sine skelsættende tørre Grosses Gewächs-Rieslinger, der brillerer med krystalklar præcision, spændstighed og kalket mineralitet, men mestrer i lige så høj grad exceptionelle ædelsøde botrytis-vine samt elegante Pinot Noir-vine.
