Wolfberger, a historic cooperative founded in 1902 in the picturesque village of Eguisheim, crafts 'La Louve' Sylvaner as a tribute to the wild, untamed heritage of Alsace. The name 'La Louve' (The She-Wolf) evokes local legends of the ancient forests that once bordered the vineyards. Sylvaner, a grape variety deeply rooted in Alsatian winemaking history, is often celebrated for its thirst-quenching simplicity, but under Wolfberger's careful stewardship, it achieves a refined expression. Sourced from selected clay-limestone parcels, the grapes undergo gentle pressing and temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel to preserve their natural brightness. The resulting wine is beautifully fresh, offering delicate aromas of white flowers, green apple, and fresh-cut grass, anchored by a subtle, stony minerality characteristic of the region's diverse soils.
🍾 About the Producer
Founded in 1902 in the historic village of Eguisheim, Wolfberger was established when visionary local winegrowers united to create one of Alsace's most prominent and influential cooperative houses. A pioneer in regional innovation, the producer played an instrumental role in the official establishment of the Crémant d'Alsace AOC in 1976, harmonizing centuries-old regional tradition with modern winemaking precision. Wolfberger carefully oversees a vast mosaic of Alsace terroirs, emphasizing sustainable viticulture and meticulous parcel selection. The house is widely acclaimed for its classic single-varietal expressions—including aromatic Gewurztraminer, mineral-driven Riesling, and structured Pinot Noir—alongside elegant Crémant sparkling wines, lusciously concentrated Vendanges Tardives, and traditional fruit brandies.
