Established in 1923 by Shinjiro Torii on the outskirts of Kyoto, Yamazaki is Japan's oldest malt whisky distillery. Nestled at the confluence of the Katsura, Uji, and Kizu rivers, the distillery benefits from a uniquely humid, misty microclimate that is ideal for cask maturation. The water used in production is legendary, sourced from the same pure springs praised by the historic tea master Sen no Rikyu. The Yamazaki 25th Anniversary Single Malt represents the pinnacle of Japanese whisky craftsmanship, composed of rare, highly aged malts. It is meticulously matured in select casksโmost notably Spanish oak sherry butts, alongside American oak and prized Japanese Mizunara oak. This slow maturation imparts a profound complexity, characterized by deep notes of dried cherry, dark chocolate, sandalwood, and a delicate wisp of smoke, reflecting a harmonious blend of nature and meticulous human artistry.
