Though classified here under 'Other' as a spirit, the Yamazaki 55-Year-Old Single Malt is a legendary masterpiece of Japanese distilling heritage. Distilled in the 1960s under the supervision of Suntory's founder, Shinjiro Torii, and later master blender Keizo Saji, this expression represents the absolute pinnacle of Japanese whisky. It features components distilled in 1960 and aged in rare, porous Mizunara oak, alongside 1964 distillates matured in white oak. The Yamazaki distillery, located where the Katsura, Uji, and Kizu rivers converge, benefits from a unique, humid microclimate that accelerates wood interaction. This ultra-rare bottling, limited to just 100 bottles upon its release in 2020, offers a profound sensory journey through time, carrying deep notes of sandalwood, incense, and dried dark fruits that tell the story of Japan's post-war Showa era.

Established in 1923 by Suntory founder Shinjiro Torii, the Yamazaki Distillery stands at the foot of Mount Tennozan in Shimamoto, Osaka, as Japan's pioneering commercial malt whisky distillery. Situated where the Katsura, Uji, and Kizu rivers converge, the site was specifically selected for its exceptionally soft, pristine water and misty, humid microclimate that provides optimal conditions for barrel maturation. Yamazaki is renowned for its versatile production methodology, deploying washbacks of both wood and stainless steel, uniquely shaped copper pot stills, and a diverse cask regime featuring Japanese Mizunara oak, American oak, and Spanish ex-sherry butts. The distillery is celebrated globally for its layered, multi-dimensional single malt whiskies, most famously its flagship 12- and 18-Year-Old expressions characterized by complex notes of tropical fruit, sandalwood, and delicate spice.
