Established in 1923 by Shinjiro Torii near Kyoto, Yamazaki is Japan's oldest malt distillery. The 'Single Malt Bamboo Forest' style pays homage to the misty, humid climate of the Yamazaki vale, where the Katsura, Uji, and Kizu rivers meet. This unique microclimate, surrounded by lush bamboo forests, provides the perfect conditions for whisky maturation. Crafted from 100% malted barley and pristine local spring water—once praised by the legendary tea master Sen no Rikyu—this single malt is distilled in diverse copper pot stills and aged in a selection of casks, including rare Japanese Mizunara oak. The resulting spirit is renowned for its complex, elegant profile, featuring notes of sandalwood, dried fruit, and a subtle herbaceous undertone reminiscent of the surrounding forest.

Established in 1923 by Suntory founder Shinjiro Torii, the Yamazaki Distillery stands at the foot of Mount Tennozan in Shimamoto, Osaka, as Japan's pioneering commercial malt whisky distillery. Situated where the Katsura, Uji, and Kizu rivers converge, the site was specifically selected for its exceptionally soft, pristine water and misty, humid microclimate that provides optimal conditions for barrel maturation. Yamazaki is renowned for its versatile production methodology, deploying washbacks of both wood and stainless steel, uniquely shaped copper pot stills, and a diverse cask regime featuring Japanese Mizunara oak, American oak, and Spanish ex-sherry butts.
