The Yamazaki Single Malt Mizunara Bottled 2014 is a legendary testament to Japanese whisky-making ingenuity. The story of Mizunara oak (Quercus mongolica) began out of necessity during World War II when import restrictions cut off access to American white oak and Spanish sherry casks. Yamazaki's master blenders turned to this indigenous, highly porous, and notoriously difficult-to-work-with wood. They discovered that while young Mizunara-aged spirit can be harsh, extensive maturation yields an ethereal, deeply complex profile. This 2014 limited release showcases the pinnacle of this craft, offering a sensory journey defined by distinctive notes of Japanese temple incense (kara), sandalwood, coconut, and rich spices, reflecting the unique microclimate of Yamazaki's misty valley.
