Hailing from Japan's oldest malt whisky distillery founded in 1923 by Shinjiro Torii, the Yamazaki Single Malt Puncheon Bottled 2012 showcases the artistry of cask selection. Located where the Katsura, Uji, and Kizu rivers meet near Kyoto, the distillery benefits from a humid, misty climate ideal for maturation. This special release was aged exclusively in large, 480-liter North American white oak puncheons. The lower wood-to-liquid ratio in these oversized casks allows the spirit to mature slowly and gently, preserving the bright, clean distillery character while slowly imparting delicate notes of green apple, honey, vanilla, and soft oak.
