Crafted at the historic Yamazaki Distillery, Japan's oldest malt whisky distillery founded in 1923 by Shinjiro Torii, 'The Essence of Suntory' series represents a bold exploration of raw materials and distilling philosophy. This rare 2021 bottling shines a spotlight on Golden Promise, a legendary heirloom barley variety renowned for its rich, oily, and deeply malty character that dominated the whisky world in the mid-20th century. Distilled in 2009 and matured for over a decade in selected American oak casks, this expression captures the pristine water of the Vale of Yamazaki—where the Katsura, Uji, and Kizu rivers meet to create a unique, humid microclimate perfect for maturation. The result is an incredibly smooth, textured single malt boasting notes of sweet honey, ripe stone fruits, toasted cereal, and a delicate, creamy finish that honors both Scottish heritage and Japanese craftsmanship.

Yamazaki Distillery blev grundlagt i 1923 af Suntory-skaberen Shinjiro Torii og troner ved foden af Tennozan-bjerget i Shimamoto, Osaka, som Japans første kommercielle single malt-destilleri.
