Hailing from the southern shores of Lake Garda in the Lugana DOC, Le Morette's Mandolara is a classic expression of the Turbiana grape, also known as Trebbiano di Lugana. The estate, managed by the Zenato family, takes its name 'Le Morette' from the wild mallard ducks that nest in the nearby protected oasis of Lake Frassino. The Mandolara vineyard itself was historically named after the almond trees that once grew alongside the vines, hinting at the wine's characteristic delicate almond finish. Cultivated in mineral-rich, glacial clay soils, the grapes undergo temperature-controlled stainless steel fermentation and brief aging on the fine lees. This meticulous process preserves the wine's vibrant white flower, peach, and citrus aromas, underpinned by a distinct, savory salinity that reflects its unique lakeside terroir.
🍾 wine.about_producer
Founded in 1960 by Sergio Zenato and his wife Carla, the Zenato winery is situated on the morainic hills of Lake Garda in San Benedetto di Lugana, Veneto, Italy. Today, the estate is managed by their children, Alberto and Francesca, who continue to champion the unique terroirs of both Lugana and Valpolicella. Renowned for pioneering the quality resurgence of the indigenous Turbiana grape, Zenato produces exceptional white wines, including the iconic Lugana Riserva Sergio Zenato. In Valpolicella, the family crafts powerful, elegant red wines from their Costalunga estate, most notably their acclaimed Amarone della Valpolicella Classico and the single-varietal Corvina, Cresasso.
