Imported and bottled by the historic Bristol merchant Averys, this Madeira pays homage to Câmara de Lobos, the picturesque fishing village on the southern coast of the island. Legend has it that when Portuguese explorers first landed here in the 15th century, they discovered a large colony of monk seals (sea wolves) taking refuge in the rocky cove, giving the area its name. Câmara de Lobos became the cradle of Madeira's viticulture, famous for its steep, volcanic terraced vineyards. This bottling utilizes the traditional Solera system, a fractional blending process where older, concentrated wines are periodically replenished with younger, high-quality stock. The result is a deeply complex, amber-hued wine that exhibits a rich tapestry of dried fruits, dark molasses, toasted walnuts, and orange zest, all balanced by the intense, life-giving acidity characteristic of the island's volcanic soils.
