Hailing from the sun-drenched plains of Puglia, Borgo del Mandorlo pays homage to the historic 'Hamlet of the Almond Tree,' where almond groves and ancient vineyards have coexisted for centuries in a traditional Mediterranean polyculture. This Primitivo di Manduria Riserva is crafted from 100% Primitivo, a grape whose name derives from the Latin 'primativus' due to its early ripening nature, a characteristic first documented by local Benedictine monks. Grown in the region's iconic iron-rich red clay soils over limestone, the vines benefit from intense southern Italian sunshine tempered by cooling breezes from the nearby Ionian Sea. To earn its Riserva designation, the wine undergoes extended aging, including a significant period in oak casks. This process tempers the grape's natural exuberance, resulting in a deeply concentrated, velvety red boasting rich notes of blackberry jam, dried figs, sweet tobacco, and warm baking spices.
