The 'du Château' Pinot Noir from Château de Marsannay is a refined expression of the estate's diverse terroirs in the Côte de Nuits. Sourced from carefully selected estate parcels, this wine captures the vibrant energy and classic structure of Burgundian Pinot Noir. The vines thrive on the region's signature limestone and clay soils, which impart a distinct mineral tension and elegant red-fruit character. Historically, Marsannay has been known as the golden gate to the Côte de Nuits, celebrated for its diverse microclimates. In the cellar, the grapes undergo traditional fermentation with gentle extraction, followed by aging in French oak barrels to harmonize the bright cherry and raspberry notes with subtle spice and earthy undertones, reflecting the authentic heritage of the estate.
🍾 About the Producer
Constructed in 1990 by wine merchant André Boisseaux and acquired in 2012 by Olivier Halley, Château de Marsannay serves as the northern beacon of the Côte de Nuits. Managing approximately 40 hectares of vines—including 28 hectares sited across premier climats of Marsannay and choice parcels in Gevrey-Chambertin, Vosne-Romanée, and Grand Cru plots like Ruchottes-Chambertin and Clos de Vougeot—the estate also vinifies historic holdings for the Hospices de Dijon. Viticulture is certified organic through Ecocert, emphasizing precise soil biodiversity, Poussard sap-flow pruning, and cover crops. Under technical director Sylvain Pabion, vinification champions parcel-specific clarity: hand-harvested fruit is sorted meticulously, partially whole-cluster fermented with native yeasts, and matured in fine-grained French oak with restrained extraction. Château de Marsannay remains singular for mastering Marsannay's unique triumvirate of styles—structural red Pinot Noir, mineral-taut Chardonnay and Pinot Beurot, and textured gastronomic rosé—championing premier cru elevation across historic terroirs such as Clos du Roy and Clos de Jeu.
