Part of d'Arenberg's highly acclaimed 'Amazing Sites' series, The Solipsistic Snollygoster Shiraz is a single-vineyard bottling that highlights the distinct microclimate and ancient soils of McLaren Vale. The wine's eccentric name is a classic example of winemaker Chester Osborn's whimsical nomenclature, combining 'solipsistic' (the belief that only one's own mind is sure to exist) with 'snollygoster' (a quirky 19th-century slang term for a shrewd, unprincipled politician). True to d'Arenberg's traditionalist philosophy, the grapes undergo gentle foot-treading and are pressed using historic basket presses before aging in a combination of new and seasoned French and American oak barriques. The result is a deeply concentrated, complex Shiraz that offers an intense expression of dark berries, savory spice, and earthy minerality unique to its specific plot.
