✨ Technical Specifications
Domaine Dirler-Cad s Pinot Gris R serve is a masterful expression of Alsace's complex terroir, crafted with strict adherence to biodynamic principles. Historically, Pinot Gris in Alsace was wrapped in the legend of 'Tokay d'Alsace,' supposedly brought back from Hungary by Baron Lazare de Schwendi after his campaigns in the 16th century. While modern ampelography revealed the grape actually originated in Burgundy, the noble character of the variety remains undisputed. Sourced from the estate's biodynamically farmed plots in Bergholtz, which feature a mosaic of clay, limestone, and sandstone soils, this wine is fermented using indigenous yeasts and aged on its fine lees. Unlike the heavy, overly sweet Pinot Gris styles of the past, Dirler-Cad focuses on tension, purity, and a dry, textured palate that highlights the grape's natural smoky, stone-fruit, and mineral nuances.
🍾 About the Producer
Established in 1871 in the southern Alsatian village of Bergholtz, Domaine Dirler-Cadé represents the union of two historic winegrowing families, merged in 2000 following the marriage of Jean Dirler and Ludivine Cadé. A pioneer of biodynamic viticulture in Alsace, the estate converted its vineyards to biodynamics in 1998 to respect natural biodiversity and preserve soil vitality. Their prime vineyard holdings encompass historic Grands Crus—including Kessler, Kitterlé, Saering, and Spiegel—alongside distinct lieux-dits such as Belzbrunnen and Schimberg. Dirler-Cadé is globally renowned for its bone-dry, terroir-driven Rieslings, vibrant Pinot Gris, aromatic Gewurztraminers, and finely textured Crémant d'Alsace sparkling wines.
