✨ Technical Specifications
The crown jewel of Burgundy, Romanée-Conti is a legendary 1.81-hectare monopole vineyard whose history is steeped in aristocratic rivalry. In 1760, a fierce bidding war erupted for this prized parcel between Louis François de Bourbon, the Prince of Conti, and Madame de Pompadour, the mistress of King Louis XV. The Prince emerged victorious, keeping the entire production for his personal consumption and cementing the vineyard's mythical status. Today, this sacred ground produces a Pinot Noir of unparalleled complexity and ethereal elegance. The vines, averaging over 50 years of age, are cultivated biodynamically, with the soil plowed by horse to prevent compaction. In the cellar, traditional whole-cluster fermentation is utilized, followed by aging in 100% new French oak barrels. The resulting wine is renowned for its hauntingly complex bouquet of rose petals, Asian spices, and forest floor, combined with an aristocratic structure and an incredibly long finish.
🍾 About the Producer
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti stands as the quintessential summit of fine Burgundy. While monastic cultivation on these Vosne-Romanée slopes traces back to the thirteenth century, the modern estate was consolidated in 1869 when Jacques-Marie Duvault-Blochet acquired the revered Romanée-Conti parcel. Today, co-owned by the de Villaine and Leroy/Roch families and steered by Bertrand de Villaine and Perrine Fenal, the domaine encompasses roughly 28 hectares devoted almost entirely to Grand Crus. Rooted in iron-rich Bajocian limestone and nutrient-dense clay marls, the vineyards benefit from gentle east-facing inclinations and dedicated horse-plowed cultivation. Having implemented organic methods since 1986 and achieving full biodynamic certification in the 2000s, DRC emphasizes microscopic yields, rigorous massale selection, and whole-cluster native yeast fermentation. Maturation in custom new French oak yields wines of supernatural depth, precision, and longevity. Benchmark cuvées—above all the monopoles Romanée-Conti and La Tâche, alongside Richebourg, Romanée-Saint-Vivant, Grands Échezeaux, and Échezeaux—embody pure aromatic nuance and timeless, aristocratic grace.
