Hailing from the gravity-defying, iron-rich red slate slopes of the Mosel, Dr. Loosen's Erdener Treppchen Riesling Auslese is a masterclass in tension and terroir. The vineyard's name, meaning 'little staircase of Erden,' refers to the stone steps carved into the sheer cliffside centuries ago to help vineyard workers navigate the treacherous terrain. This extreme exposure allows the Riesling grapes to bask in intense sunlight, while the red slate imparts a muscular, mineral-driven structure and exotic stone-fruit complexity. Crafted from hand-selected, botrytis-affected grapes, this Auslese is fermented in traditional Fuder casks, yielding a luscious, nectar-like sweetness perfectly balanced by the Mosel's signature electric acidity.

The historic Dr. Loosen estate has been in the Loosen family for over two centuries, situated along the dramatic, slate-lined slopes of the Middle Mosel in Bernkastel-Kues, Germany. Since taking over management in 1988, Ernst Loosen has revitalized the winery by strictly focusing on low yields, meticulous vineyard stewardship, and minimal intervention in the cellar. The estate is blessed with extraordinarily old, ungrafted Riesling vines in legendary Grand Cru (Grosse Lage) vineyards such as Erdener Prälat, Wehlener Sonnenuhr, and Bernkasteler Lay.
