The Erdener Treppchen, or 'little staircase of Erden,' is one of the Mosel's most dramatic grand cru vineyards, named for the stone steps built directly into the towering, near-vertical red slate cliffs to help workers tend the vines. Under the stewardship of Ernst Loosen, this historic site yields a classic Kabinett of extraordinary tension and energy. Crafted from 100% Riesling, this wine benefits from the unique heat-retaining properties of the iron-rich red slate, which imparts a distinctively spicy, mineral-driven character. Fermented in cool stainless steel tanks to preserve its pristine fruit, the wine captures the traditional Mosel style: low in alcohol, naturally off-dry, and balanced by a razor-sharp, electric acidity that makes it dance on the palate.

The historic Dr. Loosen estate has been in the Loosen family for over two centuries, situated along the dramatic, slate-lined slopes of the Middle Mosel in Bernkastel-Kues, Germany. Since taking over management in 1988, Ernst Loosen has revitalized the winery by strictly focusing on low yields, meticulous vineyard stewardship, and minimal intervention in the cellar. The estate is blessed with extraordinarily old, ungrafted Riesling vines in legendary Grand Cru (Grosse Lage) vineyards such as Erdener Prälat, Wehlener Sonnenuhr, and Bernkasteler Lay.
