✨ Technical Specifications
Crafted by the visionary Ernst Loosen, the Urziger Wurzgarten Riesling Beerenauslese is a monumental sweet wine born from one of the Mosel's most dramatic vineyards. The 'spice garden' of Urzig is a dizzyingly steep, amphitheater-like slope defined by its rare, iron-rich red volcanic soil and slate, a geological anomaly in a region dominated by blue slate. This unique terroir imparts a famously exotic, fiery spice and vibrant tropical fruit character to the Riesling. To produce this Beerenauslese, harvest workers painstakingly hand-select individual grapes shriveled by noble rot (Botrytis cinerea). This meticulous process concentrates the sugars, acids, and complex flavors, resulting in a luscious, nectar-like wine balanced by the Mosel's signature electric acidity. It is a testament to centuries of steep-slope viticulture and the legendary winemaking heritage of the Middle Mosel.
🍾 About the Producer
The historic Dr. Loosen estate has been in the Loosen family for over two centuries, situated along the dramatic, slate-lined slopes of the Middle Mosel in Bernkastel-Kues, Germany. Since taking over management in 1988, Ernst Loosen has revitalized the winery by strictly focusing on low yields, meticulous vineyard stewardship, and minimal intervention in the cellar. The estate is blessed with extraordinarily old, ungrafted Riesling vines in legendary Grand Cru (Grosse Lage) vineyards such as Erdener Prälat, Wehlener Sonnenuhr, and Bernkasteler Lay. Dr. Loosen is globally celebrated for producing pure, expressive, and age-worthy Rieslings that range from vibrant dry bottlings to lusciously complex, mineral-laced Prädikat and dessert wines.
