The 'spice garden' of Urzig is a dizzyingly steep, amphitheater-like slope defined by its rare, iron-rich red volcanic soil and slate, a geological anomaly in a region dominated by blue slate. This unique terroir imparts a famously exotic, fiery spice and vibrant tropical fruit character to the Riesling. To produce this Beerenauslese, harvest workers painstakingly hand-select individual grapes shriveled by noble rot (Botrytis cinerea).
