The vineyard itself is legendary, named after the historic sundial erected in 1842 by Jodokus Pr m to guide the daily rhythm of the vineyard workers. 'Alte Reben' refers to the ancient, ungrafted vines—some over a century old—whose deep root systems draw intense minerality and complexity from the slate bedrock. Ernst Loosen crafts this Grosses Gew chs (GG) using traditional methods, fermenting the hand-harvested grapes with indigenous yeasts in large, neutral oak Fuder casks, followed by extended maturation on the lees.
