Hailing from the dizzyingly steep, blue Devonian slate slopes of the Mosel valley, the Dr. Loosen Wehlener Sonnenuhr Alte Reben Riesling GG represents the pinnacle of dry German Riesling. The vineyard itself is legendary, named after the historic sundial erected in 1842 by Jodokus Pr m to guide the daily rhythm of the vineyard workers. 'Alte Reben' refers to the ancient, ungrafted vines—some over a century old—whose deep root systems draw intense minerality and complexity from the slate bedrock. Ernst Loosen crafts this Grosses Gew chs (GG) using traditional methods, fermenting the hand-harvested grapes with indigenous yeasts in large, neutral oak Fuder casks, followed by extended maturation on the lees.
