The Wehlener Sonnenuhr, or 'Sundial of Wehlen,' is one of the most iconic vineyards in Germany's Mosel valley, famous for its precipitously steep slopes of pure blue Devonian slate. This legendary site, named after the historic sundial erected in 1842 by Jodocus Prüm, yields 100% Riesling of extraordinary elegance and minerality. Under the stewardship of Ernst Loosen, whose family has estate-bottled Mosel wines for over two centuries, this Auslese Tradition is crafted from selectively harvested, botrytis-affected grapes. Fermented traditionally in large, neutral oak casks (Fuder), it beautifully balances rich, honeyed stone fruit sweetness with a vibrant, electric spine of slate-driven acidity.

The historic Dr. Loosen estate has been in the Loosen family for over two centuries, situated along the dramatic, slate-lined slopes of the Middle Mosel in Bernkastel-Kues, Germany. Since taking over management in 1988, Ernst Loosen has revitalized the winery by strictly focusing on low yields, meticulous vineyard stewardship, and minimal intervention in the cellar. The estate is blessed with extraordinarily old, ungrafted Riesling vines in legendary Grand Cru (Grosse Lage) vineyards such as Erdener Prälat, Wehlener Sonnenuhr, and Bernkasteler Lay.
