Nestled in the dramatic, steep bends of the Mosel River, the Wehlener Sonnenuhr (Sundial of Wehlen) vineyard is legendary. Named after the historic sundial erected in 1842 by Jodocus Prüm to guide vineyard workers, this iconic site features pure, heat-retaining blue Devonian slate soils that impart a striking mineral intensity to the grapes. Dr. Loosen, under the visionary guidance of Ernst Loosen, crafts this 100% Riesling Auslese from selectively harvested, late-ripening grapes, often touched by noble rot (botrytis). Fermented with native yeasts, the wine beautifully balances luscious sweetness with a vibrant, electric acidity, embodying the pinnacle of Mosel craftsmanship and history.

The historic Dr. Loosen estate has been in the Loosen family for over two centuries, situated along the dramatic, slate-lined slopes of the Middle Mosel in Bernkastel-Kues, Germany. Since taking over management in 1988, Ernst Loosen has revitalized the winery by strictly focusing on low yields, meticulous vineyard stewardship, and minimal intervention in the cellar. The estate is blessed with extraordinarily old, ungrafted Riesling vines in legendary Grand Cru (Grosse Lage) vineyards such as Erdener Prälat, Wehlener Sonnenuhr, and Bernkasteler Lay.
