✨ wine.spec_sheet

The Scharzhof Riesling QbA from the legendary Egon Müller estate represents an extraordinary introduction to the steep, slate-laden slopes of the Saar valley in the Mosel region. While officially classified as a basic Qualitätswein (QbA), this wine is crafted with the same obsessive precision that defines the estate's world-famous auction bottlings. The Müller family's connection to the historic Scharzhof estate dates back to 1797, when Jean-Jacques Koch acquired the property after it was confiscated from the Benedictine monastery of St. Paul by French revolutionary forces. Grown on cool-climate Devonian slate soils, this 100% Riesling captures the vibrant, electric tension of the Saar. It is fermented in traditional large oak casks (Fuder) using indigenous yeasts, resulting in a masterclass of balance where delicate residual sweetness is perfectly countered by a piercing, crystalline acidity and a profound, smoky minerality.

🍾 wine.about_producer

Established in 1797 when the Müller family acquired the historic estate, Weingut Egon Müller-Scharzhof is located in Wiltingen within the Saar sub-region of the Mosel, Germany. Today, the estate is meticulously managed by Egon Müller IV, who continues a multi-generational legacy of producing some of the world's most coveted and long-lived white wines. The winery is legendary for its peerless Rieslings sourced from the steep, slate-rich slopes of the iconic Scharzhofberg vineyard, as well as the Wiltinger Braune Kupp site under the Le Gallais label. Emphasizing traditional, low-intervention cellar practices and old, ungrafted vines, Egon Müller crafts exceptionally precise, mineral-driven, and exquisitely balanced Rieslings ranging from crisp QbA to legendary, auction-grade Auslese and Trockenbeerenauslese expressions.
