The Scharzhofberg vineyard in the Saar valley is legendary, a grand cru site whose fame is so vast that it is one of the few German vineyards permitted to omit the village name from its label. Under the stewardship of the Egon Müller estate, which has guided these slopes since the late 18th century following its confiscation from monastic orders during the French Revolution, this wine represents the absolute pinnacle of Mosel Riesling. The Auslese is crafted from late-harvested grapes, often touched by noble rot, grown on steep, weathered grey slate soils and fermented naturally in traditional old oak Fuder casks. The result is a wine of breathtaking tension, balancing intense, honeyed sweetness with an electric, mineral-driven acidity.

🍾 wine.about_producer

Established in 1797 when the Müller family acquired the historic estate, Weingut Egon Müller-Scharzhof is located in Wiltingen within the Saar sub-region of the Mosel, Germany. Today, the estate is meticulously managed by Egon Müller IV, who continues a multi-generational legacy of producing some of the world's most coveted and long-lived white wines. The winery is legendary for its peerless Rieslings sourced from the steep, slate-rich slopes of the iconic Scharzhofberg vineyard, as well as the Wiltinger Braune Kupp site under the Le Gallais label. Emphasizing traditional, low-intervention cellar practices and old, ungrafted vines, Egon Müller crafts exceptionally precise, mineral-driven, and exquisitely balanced Rieslings ranging from crisp QbA to legendary, auction-grade Auslese and Trockenbeerenauslese expressions.
