✨ Technical Specifications
The estate of Egon Müller on the Scharzhofberg is legendary, with roots tracing back to the medieval Benedictine Abbey of St. Paul in Trier. Following the French Revolution, the estate was acquired by the Müller family, who have since crafted some of the world's most coveted white wines. The Scharzhofberg vineyard, situated in the cool Saar valley of the Mosel, features steep, south-facing slopes rich in weathered grey Devonian slate. This unique terroir, combined with ancient, sometimes ungrafted vines, yields Riesling of unparalleled tension and mineral depth. The Auslese 'Nr' bottlings, often reserved for the prestigious Trier wine auctions, are crafted from meticulously hand-selected grapes affected by noble rot (botrytis). Fermented in traditional oak Fuder casks, this wine balances luscious, honeyed sweetness with a piercing, electric acidity that ensures near-immortal aging potential.
🍾 About the Producer
Weingut Egon Müller-Scharzhof traces its heritage to 1797 when Jean-Jacques Koch acquired the historic estate, nestled in Wiltingen along the Saar valley within Germany's famed Mosel region. Handed down across generations, the estate is celebrated globally under the stewardship of Egon Müller IV, who maintains a deeply traditional approach emphasizing pristine vineyard management, late harvesting, and minimal cellar intervention. The estate is crowned by its holdings in the legendary Scharzhofberg vineyard, home to pre-phylloxera, ungrafted Riesling vines grown on steep, slate soils. Egon Müller is globally acclaimed for producing arguably the purest, most ageworthy, and aristocratic sweet Rieslings in existence, ranging from exquisite Spätlese and Auslese to mythical, auction-commanding Trockenbeerenauslese expressions.
