Egon Müller’s Scharzhofberg is the undisputed crown jewel of the Saar, a legendary vineyard whose history stretches back to monastic cultivation in the Middle Ages. Purchased by the Müller family in 1797, this estate produces some of the world's most coveted white wines. The Scharzhofberger Riesling Auslese Goldkapsel 'Versteigerung' (Auction) is an ultra-rare, botrytized masterpiece crafted only in exceptional vintages and sold exclusively at the annual VDP auction in Trier. Grown on steep, weathered grey Devonian slate slopes, the ancient, often ungrafted Riesling vines yield fruit of astonishing concentration. The winemaking is traditional and minimalist, utilizing old oak Fuder casks to let the natural tension between vibrant, electric Saar acidity and rich, honeyed botrytis express itself fully.
