Egon Müller's Scharzhofberger Riesling Kabinett Alte Reben represents the absolute pinnacle of Saar Riesling. Sourced from the legendary, south-facing Scharzhofberg vineyard—a site whose winemaking history stretches back to the medieval monks of St. Paul's Abbey in Trier—this wine is crafted from extremely old, ungrafted vines ('Alte Reben'). The terroir is defined by weathered grey and red Devonian slate, which imparts a fierce, crystalline minerality. The 'Nr. 16' designation refers to a highly coveted, limited-production auction bottling. Fermented in traditional old oak Fuder casks using indigenous yeasts, this Kabinett balances an ethereal, feather-light body with electric acidity, subtle natural sweetness, and complex notes of white peach, wet stone, and wild herbs. It is a legendary expression of Mosel winemaking heritage.

Established in 1797 when the Müller family acquired the historic estate, Weingut Egon Müller-Scharzhof is located in Wiltingen within the Saar sub-region of the Mosel, Germany. Today, the estate is meticulously managed by Egon Müller IV, who continues a multi-generational legacy of producing some of the world's most coveted and long-lived white wines. The winery is legendary for its peerless Rieslings sourced from the steep, slate-rich slopes of the iconic Scharzhofberg vineyard, as well as the Wiltinger Braune Kupp site under the Le Gallais label. Emphasizing traditional, low-intervention cellar practices and old, ungrafted vines, Egon Müller crafts exceptionally precise, mineral-driven, and exquisitely balanced Rieslings ranging from crisp QbA to legendary, auction-grade Auslese and Trockenbeerenauslese expressions.
