✨ wine.spec_sheet

The Scharzhofberg is arguably Germany's most legendary vineyard, situated on a steep, south-facing hillside of weathered grey Devonian slate in the cool Saar valley. Egon Müller's stewardship of this historic site dates back to 1797, when the family acquired land confiscated from the Benedictine monastery of St. Paul in Trier during the French Revolution. The Scharzhofberger Riesling Spätlese 'Nr. 17' represents an elite expression of this terroir, often associated with specific Fuder (traditional oak casks) or highly prized auction bottlings. Crafted from 100% Riesling, this white wine is defined by its breathtaking tension between natural residual sweetness and a piercing, electric acidity. It offers a complex aromatic profile of white peach, wet stone, lime zest, and delicate floral notes, underpinned by a profound mineral depth that only this unique microclimate and slate soil can provide.

🍾 wine.about_producer

Established in 1797 when the Müller family acquired the historic estate, Weingut Egon Müller-Scharzhof is located in Wiltingen within the Saar sub-region of the Mosel, Germany. Today, the estate is meticulously managed by Egon Müller IV, who continues a multi-generational legacy of producing some of the world's most coveted and long-lived white wines. The winery is legendary for its peerless Rieslings sourced from the steep, slate-rich slopes of the iconic Scharzhofberg vineyard, as well as the Wiltinger Braune Kupp site under the Le Gallais label. Emphasizing traditional, low-intervention cellar practices and old, ungrafted vines, Egon Müller crafts exceptionally precise, mineral-driven, and exquisitely balanced Rieslings ranging from crisp QbA to legendary, auction-grade Auslese and Trockenbeerenauslese expressions.
