Egon Müller's Scharzhofberger Riesling Spätlese is a legendary monument of German winemaking, hailing from the Saar's most famous vineyard. The Scharzhofberg hill, with its deep Devonian slate soils and steep, south-facing slopes, has been cultivated since Roman times and was later tended by the Benedictine monks of St. Pauli in Trier before the Müller family acquired the estate in 1797. The 'Nr6' designation refers to a highly prestigious, limited-production auction bottling. Made from 100% Riesling, the wine is crafted using traditional methods, including fermentation in old oak Fuder casks. This Spätlese represents the pinnacle of late-harvest winemaking, capturing an ethereal tension between intense natural sweetness and the piercing, mineral-driven acidity characteristic of the cool Saar microclimate.
