F.X. Pichler's 'M' designation represents the pinnacle of concentration and power. While more famously associated with their Grüner Veltliner, the Riesling Smaragd 'M' is an extraordinary, rare bottling crafted only in select vintages. The 'M' stands for monumental, a fitting description for a wine born from late-harvested, extremely ripe grapes selected from the estate's top terraced sites in the Wachau, such as the legendary Loibenberg and Kellerberg. These steep, stone-terraced vineyards capture intense heat during the day, while cool night winds from the Waldviertel preserve vital acidity. The winemaking process involves meticulous hand-selection, brief skin contact, and slow fermentation in large, neutral Austrian oak casks. This produces a dry Riesling of immense structural scale, combining rich, exotic fruit notes with a deep, vibrating mineral backbone and incredible longevity.
