Crafted by the legendary Gaja family in the Langhe region of Piedmont, Rossj-Bass is a masterclass in Italian Chardonnay. The wine's name pays homage to Rossana 'Rossj' Gaja, the younger daughter of Angelo Gaja, combined with 'Bass' (meaning low), which references the lower elevation of the estate's vineyards. Primarily composed of Chardonnay with a small, aromatic touch of Sauvignon Blanc, the grapes are sourced from the Rossj vineyard in Barbaresco and the Bass vineyard in Serralunga d'Alba. Gaja employs a meticulous vinification process, fermenting the wine in temperature-controlled stainless steel before aging it for six to seven months in neutral oak barriques. This short wood contact, combined with partial malolactic fermentation, imparts a luxurious texture, subtle spice, and elegant structure while preserving the vibrant, mineral-driven character of the Piedmontese terroir.
