Nestled in the heart of the Juliénas appellation, Château des Capitans is a historic 18th-century estate that represents the robust, soulful side of Beaujolais. Under the stewardship of the legendary Georges Duboeuf, this estate has become a benchmark for the Cru. The wine is crafted entirely from the Gamay Noir à Jus Blanc grape, grown on south-facing slopes rich in schist, volcanic rock, and clay-silica soils. Legend has it that the estate's name pays homage to the Roman captains who first planted vines in this ancient terroir. Traditional semi-carbonic maceration is employed to preserve the vibrant fruit character, while a portion of the wine is aged in oak barrels to impart structure, complexity, and subtle spice to its deep ruby profile of dark cherries, cassis, and wild violets.
