This iconic bottling represents one of the most historic partnerships in Beaujolais. In 1968, Georges Duboeuf teamed up with Jean Descombes, a charismatic and meticulous grower widely regarded as one of the spiritual fathers of the Morgon appellation. Descombes was famous for his warm hospitality and his devotion to the unique terroir of Morgon, characterized by decomposed schist and manganese-rich granite soils locally known as 'roche pourrie' (rotten rock). Crafted from old Gamay vines, this wine undergoes traditional semi-carbonic maceration to capture the vibrant, fleshy fruit of the grape while extracting the structured, muscular tannins typical of Morgon. Over time, this wine famously undergoes the process of 'morgonner,' where it sheds its youthful berry profile to develop the earthy, savory, and cherry-infused complexity reminiscent of fine aged Burgundy.

Founded in 1964 by the visionary Georges Duboeuf in Romanèche-Thorins, Les Vins Georges Duboeuf is credited with popularizing Beaujolais wines, particularly Beaujolais Nouveau, on a global scale. The family-owned merchant house works closely with local growers to showcase the diverse terroirs of the region, from the vibrant, fruit-forward Gamay of the Beaujolais AOC to the structured, age-worthy Cru expressions of Morgon and Moulin-à-Vent. Their portfolio includes celebrated estate partnerships such as Jean Descombes and Clos des Quatre Vents, alongside varietal wines from the Pays d'Oc and Rhône. Today, the estate continues to champion the expressive, approachable, and elegant red wines of eastern France under the guidance of the Duboeuf family.
