โจ Technical Specifications
Deep in the historic valley of the Garioch, once known as the 'Granary of Aberdeenshire' for its incredibly fertile barley-growing soils, Glen Garioch distillery has been crafting robust Highland spirits since 1797. The Highland Single Malt Sherry Cask expression showcases the magnificent synergy between the distillery's heavy, oily, and honeyed spirit and the profound influence of European oak sherry casks. Traditionally distilled in copper pot stills, the spirit absorbs the rich, oxidative characters of Spanish Sherry wood during its long slumber. This maturation process cloaks the distillery's signature heather-honey and cereal notes in layers of rich raisins, warm baking spices, dark chocolate, and molasses, offering a beautifully textured dram that pays homage to centuries of Scottish distilling heritage.
๐พ About the Producer
Established in 1797 by John and Alexander Manson, Glen Garioch (pronounced 'Glen Geery') is one of Scotland's oldest continuously operating distilleries and the most easterly distillery in the Highlands. Located in the market town of Oldmeldrum within the fertile Valley of the Gariochโhistorically celebrated as the 'Granary of Aberdeenshire'โthe distillery benefits from prime regional barley and mineral-rich water drawn from the Silent Spring of Coutens Farm. Under the ownership of Suntory Global Spirits via Morrison Bowmore Distillers, Glen Garioch underwent a transformative renovation to reinstate traditional floor maltings and direct-fired copper wash stills. This classical production architecture, coupled with a 50-hour fermentation cycle, imparts a signature robust, honeyed, waxy profile with notes of orchard fruit and warm malt cereal. Celebrated for its non-chill-filtered, high-strength releases, benchmark expressions include the flagship Founder's Reserve, the 12-Year-Old, and vintage cask-strength single malt bottlings.
