✨ Technical Specifications
The 'Deuxième Vendange de Chavigne' is a testament to the iconoclastic genius of Jean-Marie Guffens. Sourced from the legendary En Chavigne vineyard in Vergisson, this cuvée is born from Guffens' meticulous practice of 'tries successives'—making multiple passes through the vineyard during harvest. While the first pass captures the vibrant, mineral-driven acidity of the Chardonnay grapes, the 'Deuxième Vendange' (second harvest) consists of grapes left on the vine to achieve a higher state of ripeness, occasionally touched by noble rot. This technique yields a white Burgundy of astonishing richness, texture, and concentration, balanced by the intense, chalky minerality inherent to the steep limestone slopes of the Roc de Vergisson. It is a wine that challenges the traditional hierarchy of Burgundy, offering grand cru complexity from a Mâconnais terroir.
🍾 About the Producer
Established in 1979 by Belgian native Jean-Marie Guffens and his wife Lydie Heynen, Domaine Guffens-Heynen is located in the picturesque village of Vergisson in Burgundy's Mâconnais region. Widely regarded as a revolutionary visionary, Guffens transformed the reputation of southern Burgundy through uncompromising vineyard husbandry, rigorous manual selections involving multiple passes ('tries') during harvest, and precise, non-interventionist cellar practices. The domaine is world-renowned for crafting extraordinarily concentrated, mineral-rich, and age-worthy white Burgundies from iconic lieu-dits such as En Chavigne and La Roche in Pouilly-Fuissé and Mâcon-Pierreclos, regularly rivaling the finest Grand Crus of the Côte de Beaune.
