Hailing from the steep, sun-drenched terraces of Nierstein's legendary Roter Hang (Red Slope), this 2022 Riesling trocken is a pure expression of one of Germany's most celebrated terroirs. The 280-million-year-old red clay-slate soils, rich in iron, absorb the intense summer heat and radiate it back to the vines, imparting a signature smoky, wild-herb, and flinty minerality to the 100% Riesling grapes. The 2022 growing season in Rheinhessen was marked by extreme warmth and dryness, forcing the vines to dig deep into the ancient slate for moisture. This struggle yielded a wine of remarkable concentration, balancing ripe peach and zesty citrus aromas with a vibrant, saline acidity. Vinified with minimal intervention and aged in a combination of stainless steel and large neutral oak casks, it captures both the warmth of the vintage and the cool, stony precision of its origin.
