Weingut Gunderloch, founded in 1890 by banker Carl Gunderloch, is deeply intertwined with the cultural history of Rheinhessen, even inspiring Carl Zuckmayer's famous satirical play 'The Merry Vineyard.' This Nierstein Riesling trocken is a classic Ortswein (village wine) crafted entirely from Riesling grown on the legendary Roter Hang (Red Slope) of Nierstein. This unique terroir features 280-million-year-old iron-rich red clay and slate soils, which absorb the sun's warmth and reflect it back to the vines alongside the moderating influence of the nearby Rhine River. Fermented primarily in stainless steel and traditional large oak casks, this dry (trocken) wine showcases the signature mineral tension, smoky complexity, and vibrant stone fruit notes that have made Nierstein celebrated worldwide for centuries.
